| THOUGHT 4 SHOP THE PERIMETER |
Shopping the perimeter of the grocery store is the happening place to be if you are planning to eat healthier. This is of course where we find fruits, vegetables, chicken, fish, shrimp, meat, cheese, yogurt, eggs, butter and nuts and seeds. The pharmacy is also on the perimeter of the grocery store where vitamins and supplements are usually found.
Since I have already given up boxed, packaged, baked, processed and refined food, avoiding the isles is now a walk in the park. You will be looking for food that God made instead of man-made, so trekking up and down the isles is not the place for you. Shop the perimeter and load up your cart.
I always say I only eat food that God made. Since a vegetarian diet does not work for me, this includes food that walks, crawls, jumps, climbs, swims or runs. Or food that grows out of the ground, on a tree, on a vine or a bush. This takes boxed, packaged, baked, processed and refined food out of the picture. While most vegetarian diets include wholesome foods made with God-made foods, I've made my choices according to what resonates with my body and works with my belief systems.
I've also eliminated virtually all canned foods. My taste buds have become so sensitive that I can taste the can in the food, so I buy all fresh vegetables. It's just a quick 15-minute preparation on the stove. The only exceptions I've made on canned foods are tomatoes and tomato paste when I make vegetable soup.
Go shopping and stick to the perimeter of the grocery store.
Before you head for the grocery store, grab a bite to eat and make your list. You might even try a new recipe and pick up the ingredients while you are there.
Enter the store with the intention of healthier and lighter foods. Get dressed up in an outfit that makes you feel good about yourself. Walk into that store feeling healthy and strong, knowing that you are there to begin living a healthier life. Scurrying into the grocery store without a set idea on your purchases is just asking for a surprise reflexive action. Until your reflexive action is wellness - train yourself like you would any new experience you would like to master.
