| GINGER (Zangiber officinale) |
Ginger is one of my favorite herbs from cooking with Ginger to taking baths. Ginger is excellent for releasing phlegm which is why it is so often served when eating sushi to clear the pallet. Therefore, Ginger is one of the best herbs for the respiratory system. It is also excellent for combating colds and influenza.
Ginger helps to remove congestion and mucus in the throat and bowels. It aids in relieving headaches and other physical pains. Ginger is often used as a stomach tonic and for indigestion. When used during a bath, it is excellent for cleansing the skin of toxic waste. I happen to be a Ginger Bathaholic. I can't stand the smell, but the bath is amazing! Ginger is often added to meat dishes to help the gastro-intestinal tract in smoothe digestion. Ginger works very well with Capsicum for bronchial congestion and sinus congestion. You'll often see Ginger used in asian recipes for this very reason.
