One of the greatest American past-times - Baseball. Why only watch baseball on the television, when you can be playing the game! My experience catching a ball One of my favorite places to go and unwind is the batting cages. My hand-eye coordination leaves a lot to be desired, but I have a lot of fun trying to hit even the slowest pitched balls. I remember when I working at McDonalds when I was 16, I was on their softball team and everytime it was my turn to hit, the entire crowd would give a huge disappointing sigh. I knew I couldn't play, they knew I couldn't play, but I didn't care. When there was a pop fly and it was headed my way, I'd yell, "I got it!" I wanted to catch it, but then I'd suddenly curl my body and duck. My teammates would get so frustrated. Oh those were the days! Make it a date Find a partner to have fun practice batting, catching and throwing the ball. You may find your as good at baseball or better than me. Not only will you get some sun, but your chest, back, biceps and triceps will feel the benefits of movement. Playing baseball is a great upper body workout. We need to be out with our children in the yard tossing the ball around or having some adult fun going to the batting cages. It's Aerobic! Baseball is a great cardiovascular workout too and improves lower body strength. Try running the bases to improve your speed and endurance. Not only will you improve your speed, but also your quadriceps, hamstrings, calves and heart will grow stronger and love your for it. It's fun! Baseball is a great game to play with your children, friends and the older adults in the family. It teaches patience, persistence, focus and good ole' fashioned camaraderie and good sportsmanship. Get out there and be a kid again! ![]() DISCLAIMER: **This web site's goal is to provide you with information that may be useful in attaining optimal health.
