For a more enriching experience,
go down on your knees to pray or take it one step further
and prostrate yourself (lay face down) on the floor while praying.
Father, I realize in the group settings that I have chosen, each one of us in that group setting have a role to play, just as the apostles did. Each one of the apostles were hand picked by Jesus to play that role to their fullest extent. Some of us will lead, some of us will watch, some of us will serve and some of us will betray. Simon, whom Jesus renamed Peter because Peter means rock, had qualities that made him solid as a rock. Peter was chosen to lead and had leadership qualities that even he was unaware of until he was put to the test and agreed to step up to the plate. Certainly Peter messed up a few times while on his leadership path but it was to ultimately serve Peter and help him understand his role even further. When I think about these hand picked individuals that Jesus chose to associate Himself with, I realize that I too hand pick the individuals with whom I choose to associate. This not only includes my friends but my business associates and socializing circles as well. I choose them and everyone has their role.
Father, help me to realize my role in a group setting and help me to carry out that role in a way that would make You proud of my actions and reactions. You have placed a 'cause' in my heart and I am asking You to bring a heightened state of awareness to me so that I am fully aware of it and will be moved to take action in the most positive and productive way. Guide me and inspire me to do and say the right thing at the right moment. Also help me to shake the dust off my feet and keep walking when my cause is unwelcomed, unheard or unappreciated.
Through Jesus Christ's Precious Blood, Most Sacred Name and Most Holy Face. ~Amen
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke
Luke 6:12-16
12 In those days He departed to the mountain to pray, and He spent the night in prayer to God.
13 When day came, He called His disciples to Himself, and from them He chose Twelve, whom He also named apostles:
14 Simon, whom He named Peter, and his brother Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew,
15 Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, Simon who was called a Zealot,
16 and Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.
