I take the lid off myself to be all I was meant to be.

For a more enriching experience,
go down on your knees to pray or take it one step further
and prostrate yourself (lay face down) on the floor while praying.
Father, today's reading is one of my favorites because it is a gentle reminder of how hard and critical I can be toward those closest to me. Jesus ran into this problem and knew that those closest to Him would take the most convincing. Jesus knew He would get more honor, press and respect from those outside of His own town and family. Those who did not know Him personally would be more apt or excited to hear what He had to say than with those who knew Him or His family, after all, to them He was just a carpenter in the community. Those who were closest and more familiar with Him felt contempt because He was one of them, so how could He act or claim to be of higher knowledge? Who did He think He was? They probably figured He forgot His roots but there He was back in His home town preaching in the synagogue and what He received in return was familiar contempt. Father, I have done this to others and I have had it done it to me. As Jesus said, "A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house." I may not be a prophet but I certainly get the profound meaning of that sentence, where many times I have received more honor, respect and/or recognition outside of my home, than inside my home. I get it!
Thank You for this awareness that familiar contempt breeds a closed and angry mind. Familiar contempt can show up in many different ways, not only toward those closest to me, but toward a project that I am working on. Sometimes I can be so familiar with a project that I end up disliking something I used to Love and enjoy. This can also happen in my relationships as well. Familiar contempt can show up anywhere in my Life, as it closes my mind to others and puts all of the want, need, desire and attention on me. This is nothing but jealousy, envy, insecurity and selfishness. Thank You Father, thank You for such an enLightening awareness today.
Through Jesus Christ's Most Precious Blood, Most Sacred Name and Most Holy Face, I thank You for this awareness. Amen~
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke
Luke 4:21-30
21 And He began to say to them, "Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing."
22 And all spoke well of Him, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth; and they said, "Is not this Joseph's son?"
23 And He said to them, "Doubtless you will quote to me this proverb, `Physician, heal yourself; what we have heard you did at Caper'na-um, do here also in your own country.'"
24 And He said, "Truly, I say to you, no prophet is acceptable in his own country.
25 But in truth, I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Eli'jah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when there came a great famine over all the land;
26 and Eli'jah was sent to none of them but only to Zar'ephath, in the land of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow.
27 And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of the prophet Eli'sha; and none of them was cleansed, but only Na'aman the Syrian."
28 When they heard this, all in the synagogue were filled with wrath.
29 And they rose up and put Him out of the city, and led Him to the brow of the hill on which their city was built, that they might throw Him down headlong.
30 But passing through the midst of them He went away.
