Father, today's reading serves as a gentle reminder that my old ways are not working for me anymore and I need to change. In the reading below the people did not see how unnecessary it was to follow the old practices of Judaism because the New Covenant was here. There was a new Sheriff in town and the old laws were simply unnecessary. In other words, why patch up and repair an old system that was put in place by men of yesteryear, when a whole new system was being put into place by You through Your Son Jesus? Not to mention if people fast in order to get close to You, why would anyone fast if You, as Jesus, the Bridegroom, are standing right there in front of them? This brings me back to the gentle reminder that my old ways are not working for me anymore and I need to stop what I'm doing and upgrade my choices in Life. Out with the old and in with the new. Thank You Father, thank You for this increased awareness that the change I seek does not begin with me, it begins with You.
Through Jesus Christ's Most Precious Blood, Most Sacred Name and Most Holy Face, I thank You for this awareness. Amen~
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark
Mark 2:18-22
18 The disciples of John and of the Pharisees were accustomed to fast. People came to Him and objected, "Why do the disciples of John and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?"
19 Jesus answered them, "Can the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them they cannot fast.
20 But the days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast on that day.
21 No one sews a piece of unshrunken cloth on an old cloak. If he does, its fullness pulls away, the new from the old, and the tear gets worse.
22 Likewise, no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the skins are ruined. Rather, new wine is poured into fresh wineskins."
