Father, today's reading is a wonderful reminder of the symbology that is always taking place around me and how I should always seek food for my soul, first. The people believed that the manna that rained down on the Israelites in the desert was the work of Moses. They did not understand that this miraculous food was the work of God that was given to Moses and the people. The people were all about giving Moses the credit and they believed if Jesus were truly the Messiah, then He would fulfill their belief that the Messiah would also bring manna from heaven like Moses did. After all, the Jews have always regarded the manna as 'the Bread of Life'. Now the people wanted to see Jesus snap his fingers and produce food out of thin air as well and prove that He was indeed the Messiah. Jesus goes on to tell them that the manna that was given back in Moses time was not 'the real Bread of Life' and that it was a symbol of what was yet to come. The symbology was just not clicking with them. The Israelites back in Moses' day needed food (substance) in their belly and it was provided. The manna certainly sustained them on the physical plane but the spiritual connect was just not happening. The manna in the desert was food for the body and the soul. Jesus goes on to tell them that the 'Bread of Life' that they are talking about they are now looking at 'The Bread' in human form because He IS the 'Bread of Life'. They were looking right at IT! Again, it just wasn't clicking. Jesus is talking about the happiness, joy, Love and Life we all long and hunger for that can be achieved when we co-Create and co-Exist with God. Choose God. Simple! The manna prefigured the bread we know of today in the Lord's Supper (Eucharist). It's so wonderful to see the symbolic connection of dots from the manna to the Eucharist. Thank You for reminding me to recognize the symbology that You place in front of me every single day to spiritually nourish my body, mind and soul. Thank You!
Through Jesus Christ's Most Precious Blood, Most Sacred Name and Most Holy Face, I thank You for this awareness. Amen~
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John
John 6:30-35
30 So they said to Him, "Then what sign do You do, that we may see, and believe You? What work do You perform?
31 Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, `He gave them bread from heaven to eat.'"
32 Jesus then said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven; My Father gives you the true bread from heaven.
33 For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven, and gives Life to the world."
34 They said to Him, "Lord, give us this bread always."
35 Jesus said to them, "I AM the bread of Life; he who comes to Me shall not hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst."
