Also known as the five flavor berry, Schizandra is a deciduous woody vine native to forests of Northern China and the Russian Far East. The berries are commonly used for food and medicine and it is also known as one of the 50 fundamental herbs in Chinese medicine.
Increases resistance to disease and stress. Used for increase mental performance. Known to increase energy, physical performance and endurance the Schisandra is used to prevent early aging and increasing lifespan. Also used to treat liver disease and protect the liver from poisons. Also used in the treatment of high cholesterol, coughs, asthma,sleep problems (insomnia), nerve pain, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), chronic diarrhea, dysentery, night sweats, spontaneous sweating, involuntary discharge of semen, thirst, erectile dysfunction (ED), physical exhaustion, excessive urination,depression, irritability, and memory loss.
Relatively safe when eaten as food. It can cause heartburn, upset stomach, decreased appetite, stomach pain, skin rash, and itching.
