The word chiropractic comes from the Greek and means "done by hand." We are a nation of believers in the practice, spending several billion dollars with over 450,000 practitioners each year. Chiropractors spend four years in accredited colleges after completing in-depth undergraduate courses, learning much of the same information as traditional medical doctors.
The founder, Daniel David Palmer, believed that health was directly tied to the proper function of the nervous system. He studied the spinal cord as it passed through the vertebrae carrying thirty-one pair of nerves that serve the body's various organs, muscles, and tissue. Nerve function can be disrupted by misaligned vertebrae which can be the major cause of disease. Once the nerves are free from any disruption, the body is able to perform it's own healing.
Through manual manipulation of the joints and spine, chiropractors influence the body's nervous system and natural defense mechanisms called innate intelligence to relieve pain and improve health. Many chiropractors take a full X ray of the spine because some misalignment may be too slight to be felt. These displaced or misaligned vertebrae (subluxations) can be caused by chemical, physical, or mental stress to the body.
Conditions Benefited by Chiropractic Care: Asthma, Common Cold, Gastrointestinal Disorders, Heart Trouble, High Blood Pressure, Respiratory Conditions, Sinusitis.
