Father, today's reading reminds of the times when I had company over and busied myself with other things when I could have just plunked down and enjoyed my company. In the reading below, clearly Martha was in need of an attitude adjustment. Martha was so busy cleaning, cooking and serving that she was actually missing the real serving, which was at Jesus' feet where Mary happened to be. Jesus was in the house and Martha was essentially missing the juice in the moment because she was busy doing her impressive cleaning and scurrying about while company was there. And this was not just any company, it was JESUS! This just goes to show that trying to be impressive with how busy we are, may only reveal that our priorities are off track. At various times, I not only turn a blind eye to my spirituality and acknowledging You, but I do this to my family and friends as well. In this day and age we busy ourselves with work, our smartphones and personal drama and forget about the company in our presence. More importantly, You are always in our presence.
Thank You for this wonderful attitude awareness that shows me where I was, where I am now and where I need to be. While it is easy to point fingers at others for their busy attitude and behavior, such as being on their phones, it is most important to be mindful of my own and take ownership when I have fallen off the connected and enlightenment truck. I admit, it is not easy to go an entire day without complaining or whining about something in my busy Life, even so, I need to take note of what motivates me in that moment. Am I just trying to be impressive like Martha, or is it something else?
Through Jesus Christ's Precious Blood, Most Sacred Name and Most Holy Face. ~Amen
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke
Luke 10:38-42
38 Now as they went on their way, He entered a village; and a woman named Martha received Him into her house.
39 And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to His teaching.
40 But Martha was distracted with much serving; and she went to him and said, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me."
41 But the Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things;
42 one thing is needful. Mary has chosen the Good portion, which shall not be taken away from her."
