Father, as we celebrate the Infant Baby Jesus today, the Scripture brings to mind the joyful and immediate amazement of Him from the moment of His birth. It is truly amazing how far people came to see Him, just to catch a glimpse of Him and how their face must have lit up with joy when they saw His tiny little chubby face cooing and smiling.
This reminds me of how excited we are when our children are born and how we prepare and celebrate their birth. Throughout the Scriptures and particularly in the Gospels we are taught to come to You with child-like dependence just as our children are completely dependent on us. We see more and more these days where children cannot be completely dependent on their parents because their parents are too busy with other things, such as work or their own recreational pursuits. Dependent children are often pawned off on others or entertained with gadgets so that they are not seen and not even heard. This reminds me of how You, as our Ultimate Parent will never leave us; how You will always want us; how You will always Love us; how You will always receive us; how You will always want us close to You and right up next to You, tugging on You asking question after question after question. We should be completely dependent upon You like a child dependent upon their parent. As any parent should Light up at the mere sight or thought of their children, You probably do smile at the mere sight or thought of us, even when we don't deserve it. Father, I know You will never leave any of your children or abandon any of us. If anything, it is us who will choose to leave or abandon You.
Father, thank You for this awareness today of the gift of children and for the gift of Tony Morrison who brought us such profound words, "Do your eyes Light up when your child walks in the room?"
Through Jesus Christ's Precious Blood, Most Sacred Name and Most Holy Face. ~Amen
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke
Luke 2:1-14
1 In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be enrolled.
2 This was the first enrollment, when Quirin'i-us was governor of Syria.
3 And all went to be enrolled, each to his own city.
4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David,
5 to be enrolled with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child.
6 And while they were there, the time came for her to be delivered.
7 And she gave birth to her first-born son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.
8 And in that region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
9 And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with fear.
10 And the angel said to them, "Be not afraid; for behold, I bring you Good news of a great joy which will come to all the people;
11 for to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
12 And this will be a sign for you: you will find a babe wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger."
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,
14 "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased!"
