Father, today's reading gave me a strong awareness of what I choose to 'give' my attention to. There are many things in Life that would not bother me so much if I did not give my attention to it. At the same time, there are so many things that should rub me raw if I chose to give my attention to it.

Simeon, in the reading below, though he could not see physically, could not imagine (see) himself passing into the spirit realm until he saw (experienced or met) the Messiah. His attention was full measure, pressed down and running over. He experienced ecstasy in the most heightened sense, which was spiritual ecstasy, brought on by his devout attention to it. This causes me to wonder about my attention and how much more wonderful my Life would be if I held my attention in the proper place. If I gave something my full measure of attention, then the result I seek would occur. How could it not? This full attention could be applied to anything in Life such as; diet, exercise, career, financial recovery, reconcilation with someone or any subject matter that requires my attention. My full lack of attention or my full abundance of attention would dictate my outcome or success.

When I think of prayer and my communication with You, it is more important to give You my proper attention and focus rather than plop myself down and ramble off some words. When I make the 'sign of the cross' on myself, I need to take my time rather than rattle off the motions to remind myself exactly what that action means. How could I possibly experience full spiritual ecstasy without giving You my proper attention? Even more, I can think of so many things that I allow into my daily Life that literally rob me of my full attention resulting in a lack of success.

Thank You for this wonderful reminder to be more aware about what I choose to give my attention to because my outcome is purely based on my level of attention.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 2:22-35

22 When the days were completed for their purification according to the law of Moses, they took him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord,

23 just as it is written in the law of the Lord, "Every male that opens the womb shall be consecrated to the Lord,"

24 and to offer the sacrifice of "a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons," in accordance with the dictate in the law of the Lord.

25 Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, awaiting the consolation of Israel, and the holy Spirit was upon him.

26 It had been revealed to him by the holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Messiah of the Lord.

27 He came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to perform the custom of the law in regard to Him,

28 he took Him into his arms and blessed God, saying:

29 "Now, Master, you may let Your servant go in peace, according to Your Word,

30 for my eyes have seen your salvation,

31 which You prepared in sight of all the peoples,

32 a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory for Your people Israel."

33 The Child's father and mother were amazed at what was said about Him;

34 and Simeon blessed them and said to Mary His mother, "Behold, this child is destined for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be contradicted

35 (and you yourself a sword will pierce) so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed."
