Father, what an interesting reading today, although I do admit, it took me a while to get, the get. I could not figure out how the children playing in the marketplace had anything to do with the next few lines of the reading and then it dawned on me that no one was willing to listen. The children were excited and joyful about playing their music but no one would listen. They could have played their music at a wedding or a funeral and the response would have been the same. Certainly there is a time and a place for everything but no matter where the children played their musical games no one would listen. And so it goes with adults and their games. No matter how wonderful and great Jesus and John the Baptist words were, their words and deeds fell on deaf ears and no one was willing to listen. If people would have listened they would have heard that these words came with a great news but also came with a hefty warning. It was clear there was a lot of jealousy and resentment from the scribes, Pharisees and others but as Jesus once said, "A prophet is not known in his own town (country)." It didn't matter what Jesus and John did, they were never going to get proper credit or acknowledgment from those who were spiritually blind. There was not one thing that Jesus and John were going to do to please the hardened hearts. The only thing that the scribes and Pharisees were successful in doing was delaying or halting their own spiritual progression path simply because they chose to be difficult. Thank You for this awareness today and showing me that sometimes I delay my own Goodness and blessings from You just because I choose to be difficult. It really is as simple as that. From here on out, I will do better as I consciously adjust my energy, quieten my mind and shush my ego so I can hear and feel You working in my Life. Thank You for this awareness.
Through Jesus Christ's Precious Blood, Most Sacred Name and Most Holy Face. ~Amen
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew
Matthew 11:16-19
[Jesus said to them . . . ]
16 "But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the market places and calling to their playmates,
17 `We piped to you, and you did not dance; we wailed, and you did not mourn.'
18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, `He has a demon';
19 the Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, `Behold, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' Yet wisdom is justified by her deeds."
