The distinguishable red fruit is a native to Europe northern Asia and commonly cultivated in other temperate regions. They are perennials with biennial stems. Flowers are produced in late spring with fruit produced in summer or early autumn. Not a berry at all but an aggregate of fruit that is centered around a central core.
The leaves of the red raspberry is used to treat gastrointestinal disorders such as diarrhea. Also used for respiratory infections such as the flu and for heart problems, fever, diabetes, and vitamin deficiency. Women will also use the raspberry leaf for painful periods, heavy periods, morning sickness associated with pregnancy, preventing miscarriage and easing labor and delivery.
