Great plantain contains substances which might help decrease pain and swelling (inflammation), decrease mucous (phlegm) production, and open airways. It might also be able to kill bacteria and fungi.Being one of the most abundant and accessible plants in the world, It contains many bioactive compounds, including allantoin, aucubin,ursolic acid, flavonoids, and asperuloside.
  Used on burns, cuts and wounds, insect bites and for sore throat. The plantain is used in poultices and salves for topical application. The leaves are best used fresh and the plant including roots can be blended. 
  Safe when taken by mouth in moderation. Has been known to cause some side effects such as diarrhea and low blood pressure.
