MISTLETOE (Phoradendron flavescens)
 
DESCRIPTION: There are two herb varieties with one native to Great Britain and much of Europe and this species known as false or American Mistletoe. Thi is a parasitic plant that attaches to and penetrates a host branch, tree or shrub effectively absorbing water and nutrients from the host. They typically have smooth-edged, oval leaves in pairs, a woody stem and berries. 
POTENTIAL BENEFITS: Can be used as a muscle stimulant to increase blood pressure, smooth muscles and increase the contraction of the intestine and the uterus. 
POTENTIAL SIDE EFFECTS: Very toxic and not for internal consumption. May also cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, decreased heart rate, hallucinations, and heart problems in some people.
PARTS USED: Flower, Fruit, Leaves and Stem
GENERAL USAGE: Deemed unsafe. Use under medical supervision
