Astragalus originated in China and is known to treat viral infections. There have been some clinical studies in China with Astralagus which show the effectiveness of this herb in fighting the common cold. Astragalus has been shown to be useful where the immune system has been damaged by radiation or chemicals. Many herbalists say Astragalus helps to prevent heart arrhythmias. When taken orally it is said to increase the immune-stimulating compounds in the body.
Astragalus helps to stimulate the immune system and fight viral infections. Astragalus may help to lower blood pressure and aid in the cleansing the liver and gallbladder.
If you are diabetic, you MUST consult with your physician before taking Astragalus because it may increase the effects of diabetic medications or glucose elevating agents. Astragalus may also increase the effects of medications for high blood pressure, anti-viral conditions or blood-thinning purposes. It has also been known to interfere with immunosuppressive therapy, thereby compromising immune function.
