MERCURY OPPOSING SATURN

This aspect depicts conflict which, when resolved, results in growth. Oppositions show a tug of war between opposing forces. If they are resolved, then the oppositions become the backbone and strength of the chart.

It is important to understand that Mercury rules the reasoning and conscious mind that forms conclusions. Mercury is intellectual, it is the thinker, while Saturn rules stability and responsibility. Saturn is disciplined, cautious and it is the voice of authority, the authority or father figure. This aspect reveals conservative and traditional thinking.

The aspects reveals difficulty in self-expression. This is likely due to a critical father who judged his children(s) intelligence as lacking and deficient. What this does is create an adult who has trouble believing in their own ability to communicate and stand up for their own beliefs. This is definitely a tug-of-war with a critical father. It is also quite possible that now as an adult, depending on your level of maturity, you may now think of your father as the one who is lacking in intelligence.
