WHO IS A FAITHKEEPER?

There are many people in our lives who may accept to serve us as a Faithkeeper. We may see these roles filled by the clergy, authors, lecturers, TV and radio talk show hosts, mentors, muses, friends, family, neighbors or anyone who might influence, solidify or inspire our belief systems.

In many Native American traditions, one member of the tribe will assume the role of "Faithkeeper". The role of the Faithkeeper is to remain peaceful and calm, while maintaining spiritual enlightenment and understanding, no matter what the tribe may endure.

Under extreme conditions, if every single tribe member stumbles into fear, doubt, anxiety, worry and pain - the Faithkeeper maintains peace, spirituality and understanding. Therefore, the Faithkeeper is looked upon as the mainstay to the "I AM" presence of God, Great Spirit or Creator.

  • WE ALL HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO BE A "FAITHKEEPER"

The beauty about having the awareness of the Faithkeeper is that we all have the "potential" to stand in our Faith. Potential comes from the classical Latin word "potentia," which means "potent." Anything that has potency has power, energy and sustenance. It also means that anything that is potent - can! But, it has not yet come to pass. Potent is also possible and capable, but not yet come into being or physical manifestation.

We all have the potential to be a Faithkeeper, and experience the same heightened sense of spirituality, understanding and peace as our mentors. We have the ability to possess the wisdom of the Faithkeeper through our own experiences and accumulated knowledge when they are embraced with understanding, peace, spirituality and Faith.

The only thing that separates us from the Faithkeeper is our free will to choose between indecision and decision, to live within our Faith or belief systems and then sticking to it.
